    Ice Baths in Lymington

Two ice baths kept between 3°C and 7°C, a hot sauna to warm up in and free red light therapy — all in one £18 session at our hub on Ampress Lane.

What's an ice bath session like here?

Our two ice baths sit in the main hub, kept between 3°C and 7°C, with a timer alongside each so you can keep track of every dip. They're purpose-built cold immersion tanks rather than a tub of ice, so the water is ready at the same cold temperature every time you visit.

You don't book the ice bath on its own. Every one-hour session includes both ice baths, our eight-person traditional sauna at 85–90°C and the red light therapy room, so you can warm up properly between dips. Most guests alternate between the sauna and the ice baths two to four times — that's contrast therapy.

How long should you stay in an ice bath?

Our team's guidance for our 3–7°C baths is to start with 1–3 minutes. For most people around 3 minutes is plenty, and we recommend 10 minutes at most. Water this cold feels very different from a cold shower or the sea in summer, so there's nothing to prove — step out whenever you need to and warm up in the sauna.

The first few seconds bring a sharp gasp and quick breathing. That's your body's normal response to cold water, and it settles if you stay calm and focus on long, slow breaths out. Many guests find their time in the cold creeps up naturally over a few visits. Read more in How long should you stay in an ice bath?

First time in an ice bath?

You don't need any experience. When you arrive, a member of our team will show you around, explain safe ice bath use and sauna best practice, and suggest timings based on your experience. First-time guests also fill in a short health questionnaire so the session is safe for you.

Bring swimwear and a towel (we have towels at reception if you forget). There are private changing rooms and bathroom facilities on site, and shoes stay outside the main hub space. Our first-visit guide walks you through the whole session.

Why do people use ice baths?

Lots of our guests use the ice baths after training, a run or a match, and many simply like how alert and clear-headed they feel afterwards. The research on recovery is encouraging but still developing: a Cochrane review of small trials found some evidence that cold-water immersion reduces muscle soreness after exercise compared with resting, while noting that the trials were low quality and the best way to do it isn't yet clear (Cochrane review).

If building muscle is your main goal, it's worth using the ice bath strategically rather than straight after every heavy lifting session. We look at the evidence in more depth in The benefits of cold water therapy and Why cold exposure builds mental resilience.

Is an ice bath safe for me?

Cold water immersion is generally safe for healthy adults, and our team is always nearby during your session. It isn't right for everyone, though: if you have a heart or circulation condition, high or low blood pressure, are pregnant or have other health concerns, please speak to your GP before booking.

Whatever your experience, listen to your body. Get out if you feel dizzy, unwell or very uncomfortable, and give yourself time to warm up before your next round.
